The Joburg Open has been hosted at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club since 2007 and is one of the 7 Co-Sanctioned tournaments in South Africa. The Joburg has been selected as one of 14 events in 9 countries on five continents as a qualifying tournament in the newly announced qualifying series into The Open Championship.

Until 2014, South African professional women golfers had not had many opportunities of competing locally with only one professional tournament on the calendar. Investec was thrilled to have launched the inaugural Chase to the Investec Cup for Ladies in 2013 and in 2015 announced a three year continuation. Local and international professionals wanting to compete in the Chase to the Investec Cup final event qualified by playing in any of the Sunshine Ladies Tour tournaments forming part of the Chase to the Investec Cup for Ladies.

Local and international professionals wanting to compete in the Chase to the Investec Cup final event had to qualify to do so. They did so by playing in any of the Sunshine Tour tournaments forming part of the Chase to the Investec Cup over the past year. The 16 professionals, according to the Chase to the Investec Cup bonus pool ranking, played a 72 hole stroke play competition in the final event.

The Tshwane Open forms part of the Sunshine Tour and is co-sanctioned with the European Tour. The Sunshine Tour represents the highest level of competition for male professional golfers in Southern Africa. The tournament provides players a chance to gain Sunshine Tour Order of Merit points, European Race to Dubai points and sought after world ranking points.

The Alfred Dunhill Championship is a men’s professional golf tournament which is played in South Africa. It is part of the Southern African Sunshine Tour and is one of four events in South Africa that are co-sanctioned by the more prestigious European Tour.

The tournament was founded in 2000, but its origins lie in Dunhill’s sponsorship of the South African PGA Championship between 1995 and 1999. Following the 1999 Alfred Dunhill PGA Championship, the company decided to discontinue their association with the South African PGA, and create their own stand-alone tournament. The first event was held in January 2000 at the Houghton Golf Club in Johannesburg, and replaced the South African PGA Championship on the European Tour calendar.

The South African Open Championship is one of the oldest national open golf championships in the world, and is one of the principal tournaments on the Sunshine Tour. Since 1997 it has also been co-sanctioned by the European Tour. As the flagship event on the Sunshine Tour, the tournament also receives special status from the Official World Golf Ranking, with the winner being guaranteed a minimum of 32 points regardless of the strength of the field.

The first formal event was organised in 1903, following a series of exhibition matches that had been held over the preceding ten years. The championship was initially contested over just 36 holes until 1908, when it was extended to become a 72 hole tournament. The South African Open formerly took place at Durban Country Club in Durban, but moved to the Serengeti Golf Club in Ekurhuleni in 2011. It moved to Glendower Golf Club in 2013.

The Cape Town Open is played annually in November at Royal Cape Golf Club in Cape Town, South Africa.

The AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open is a co-sanctioned by the European Tour, Sunshine Tour, and Asian Tour. It began in 2015 and was played in Bel-Ombre, Mauritius, at Heritage Golf Club and in 2016 at the Four Season Golf Club at Anahita

The Vodacom Origins of Golf presented by Samsung series began in 2004 and forms part of the winter swing of Sunshine Tour . The series has 5 Pro-am tournaments hosted in key Vodacom Regions.

Each tournament consist of 72 professionals

60 amateurs per Pro –am tournament and

Final that consists of 72 professionals and 60 amateurs.

The Sunshine Ladies tour is an all professional women’s golf tournaments sanctioned by the WPGA.
The WPGA works closely with the Ladies European Tour (LET) calendar for co-sanctioned events.

The aim of the tour is to promote interest in the game of golf and to provide opportunities in teaching, tournament play, and promotion for women professionals. The Women’s PGA of SA engages the support of valued organizations and partners in protecting and furthering mutual interest in the WPGA tour and its members, and strives to nurture and develop up-and-coming SA women professionals to international level through internationally competitive WPGA tour events

Eighteen qualifying BMW GCI Golf Days are hosted by BMW SA and participating BMW Dealerships in 2016. The winners from the three handicap categories at each BMW GCI Golf Day compete at the BMW GCI National Final. After the BMW GCI National Final the victorious trio proceeds to represent South Africa at the BMW GCI World Final. This world class event has been hosted at some of the world’s most beautiful and best conditioned golf courses. Host countries of the BMW GCI World Final include Singapore, Thailand, South Africa, Australia, Portugal and Argentina.

Entry is by invitation only and invitations are strictly non-transferable. The tournament is open to amateur golfers over the age of 21 years and the participants should be members of a recognised Golf Club in South Africa.

The BMW GCI in South Africa is played on an Individual Stableford format with three handicap categories:

Mens A Handicap 0 – 12
Mens B Handicap 13 – 28
Ladies Handicap 0 – 28
