Leadership Team

Jaco Beukes

Chief Executive Officer

Armed with a wealth of experience, qualified Chartered Accountant Jaco Beukes joined SAIL in 2004. Jaco previously worked as a brand manager for Glasfit and spent 5 years working in England for various multinational financial institutions.

He returned to South Africa in 2004 and joined SAIL as an investment manager. In 2008 he was promoted to Chief Operating Officer (COO) of CIRCA and in 2009 he became COO of both CIRCA and Navitute. In 2013 he was promoted to CEO to the now called SAIL Rights Commercialisation (Pty) Ltd company.

He possesses a unique combination of formal qualifications in both finance and HR, giving him a keen insight into the balance of both. He has served on the boards of eight major sports brands and has invaluable experience in understanding client expectations.

Margaret Canca

Executive Director for Events and Business Development

Ms Canca is the Executive Director for Events and Business Development at SAIL.
She is part of the senior leadership team at SAIL and has an oversight of the
strategic direction, expansion and operation of both the Corporate Events and the Golf Division.

Her unique ability to engage with people from all sectors, the ability to identify
linkages and strategic funding opportunities that add value to clients – makes her
invaluable to any team.

With more than 15 years of local and international experience in Events, Golf and
Marketing, Margaret brings an amazing skill set and extensive government knowledge
that gives SAIL the ability to quickly adapt to our ever-changing industry. Both
as an entrepreneur and leader, she has the dedication and drive to provide continued
profit and growth, while developing strategies that translate into success for
our clients.

Sunaina Singh

Head of Finance

Sunaina is a qualified Chartered Accountant and joined SAIL in July 2012 as the HOD: Finance. She was appointed on the SAIL board of directors effective 1 July 2013.

She completed her undergraduate degree and the University of Pretoria and her post graduate degree at UNISA. She previously worked at KPMG Pretoria for about 6 years where she completed her articles in the audit division. She spent the rest of her time within the advisory division where she gained a wealth of experience in finance.

Helene du Toit

Head of Events

Heléne has 18 years of experience in managing a wide variety of events. She has earned an exceptional reputation of integrity and dedication in the events industry and amongst SAIL’s various clients and business partners.

Heléne offers the unique combination of hands-on administration that maximizes organisational effectiveness, operations-oriented leadership that ensure efficiency and people-oriented guidance that yields productivity. She has always enjoyed creating and managing meaningful experiences that put a smile on people’s faces and has pursued this passion by creating and organising memorable experiences that connect people around their interests.

When she’s not planning fabulous events, you can find her diving, mountain biking, sky mapping or reading.

Stefan van der Merwe

Head of Commercial

Stefan van der Merwe is the Head of Division at SAIL for Commercial Division and is responsible for all of SAIL’s commercial properties. He is part of the senior leadership team at the company and has an oversight of the strategic direction and implementation of all the rights owners commercial programs.

Stefan has over 12 years commercial experience. During his career he has worked on various properties, which included both the sponsorship marketing and commercialising fields. He is a result driven individual and understands the relationship between sponsors, broadcasters and rights holders. His unique way of connecting corporate brands through rights holders properties, ensuring mutual benefit and adding “points on the scoreboard” is his passion.

Being a peoples person and his excellent ability to build strong relationships is a key factor to his success to date. He is business minded and constantly pursuing unique and innovative solutions to increase business success and profit growth for his clients.

Thomas Abt

Head of Golf

Thomas is a passionate sportsman that represented his country and province in various sporting codes. With sport in his veins it was a natural progression to find a career within the sporting arena. He started playing golf and joined the PGA of South Africa in 1999.

With his BCOM Sports Management degree from RAU (now the University of Johannesburg), he quickly found a niche’ in the golfing market which allowed him to manage various golf events and tournaments at Sun City at both the Lost City and Gary Player Golf courses with Sun International. From Sun City he was seconded to Johannesburg to work at the Sun International Head Office to promote and run the Sun International stable of amateur and professional golfing events at their resorts.

In 2004 he was asked to join SAIL to assist in running the Vodacom stable of professional golf tournaments and the other major golf tournaments within the SAIL fold.

In addition, in order to grow his commercialisation scope, Thomas managed the Vodacom sponsorship of the Western Province Rugby for 4 years.

Currently, Thomas is the HOD of Golf at SAIL and has built up relationships with the Sunshine and European Tours which enables him and his team to be in the forefront of all professional golf tournaments on a local and international scale. Thomas’ team currently manages 7 of the 13 winter tournaments and 7 of the 12 summer tournaments on the Sunshine Tour, far more than any other individual promoter in the country.

Radha Chhita

Head of Hospitality and Stadia

Radha Chhita career began in the Hospitality industry in 2003 where she gained her local and international Hotel Management experience.

She joined SAIL in 2012 as a Hospitality Manager who has managed various stadiums and arenas in South Africa and is currently part of the Senior Management team as the Head of Division for the Hospitality and Stadia Division at SAIL. Radha vision’s for the Hospitality and Stadia division is to provide a world class experience to our clients.

SAIL Rights Commercialisation (Pty) Ltd is committed to Broad-based black economic empowerment initiatives. This is managed in house with the assistance of BEE consultants.

SAIL embarks on a number of initiatives to ensure compliance with the BB-BEE codes of good practice. SAIL is currently a level 3 contributor with a procurement recognition level of 110%.

SAIL focuses on entrenching empowerment on a more sustainable platform to ensure effective participation of black people in terms of ownership, control and skilled occupations. Our strategy is broad-based and we focus on all seven pillars.
